After several challenging weeks for Big Sur and the surrounding communities, Highway 1 is once again open along the Big Sur coast.

Throughout the Timber and Plaskett fires, our thoughts have remained with our neighbors, the firefighters and first responders working throughout the region, and everyone whose homes, businesses and livelihoods have been affected.

Ripplewood Resort, Ripplewood Café and our General Store have remained here through it all, supporting our community and welcoming those able to safely reach us.

Ripplewood During the Timber Fire

The Highway 1 closures had a significant impact on businesses throughout Big Sur. During the closure, KSBW Action News 8 visited Ripplewood and spoke with owner Carol about what the fire and road conditions meant for our small, locally owned business and the greater Big Sur community.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received, and even more grateful to the firefighters, emergency personnel, law enforcement, road crews and countless others who have worked tirelessly to protect Big Sur.

To all of the first responders who have spent weeks working in extraordinarily difficult terrain: thank you!!!

Highway 1 Is Open!

As of September 14, Highway 1 has reopened along the Big Sur coast.

Firefighting operations continue in the region, and conditions can change. If you’re traveling to Big Sur, we encourage you to check official sources before beginning your trip.

We stayed in cabin 6, on the river, among the redwoods. The shower had a glass roof, to see the stars. It was a dream, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, the relaxation felt excellent. For the first time we tried the experience of roasting marshmallows on the fire (bring wood), it was wonderful to sip coffee at dawn on the patio.

Rustic. Romantic. Unplugged and peaceful. Biggest bang for your buck in Big Sur. Get a cabin with a deck on the river. You’ll have to make an actual phone call to reserve a cabin so you might as well ask for exactly what you want. This is not glamorous. You will not confuse it with Post Ranch Inn but trust me when I say if you want to experience Big Sur then this is where you want to stay.

We enjoyed a good night in a Ripplewood resort cabin. this morning we came across the street to their restaurant, expecting a standard eggs and bacon kind of place. Were we wrong! Homemade cinnamon muffins, delicious, omelettes, huevos rancheros, fresh fruit, and a potato side that is mashed potatoes with green onions and cheese. I would highly recommend enjoying this breakfast spot.

Excellent location, check in desk very helpful Nice rustic cabins on river. Isolation from others. Price very fairly exceptional for Big Sur. Close to hikes, redwood trees everywhere. Highly recommend

I was doing cross country motorcycle ride coming down ca 1 pch . when it came time to bed down I landed here. What an awesome Cabin . nicely decorated full linens and bedding and a built in shower. Nice and clean the staff was wonderful.
